Grroundwatet flow•direction for
this area is generally to the east; however, it has historically ranged from northeast to southeast.
Groundwater quality data collected during 1994 and 1995 indicate that petroleum hydrocarbon releases'to
groundwater have been confirmed from the Texaco Service Station;Transmission Shop, and the Chevron
Service Station. The Tune-Up Masters also appears to have been a possible.source of petroleum hydrocarbon
to groundwater based on Texaco well data from 1993; however, no file was reviewed for this property.
Based on discussions with Ms. Turkatte, the only current active remediation in this area is soil'vapor
t extraction at the Texaco Service Station.
FIELD ACTIVITIES
Preliminary Field Activities
Prior to initiation of field activities, SECOR prepared a Site-specific Health and.Safety Plan (HASP) to
address the proposed scope of work and obtained a well construction-permit from the SJCEHD. The
proposed well and boring locations were cleared with respect to underground utilities and other obstructions'
by California Utility Surveys(CUS)and Underground Service Alert(USA)was Notified.
Drilling,Soil Sampling,and Grab Groundwater Sampling
Four boreholes (MW-1, VE-1, SB-1, and S13-2) were advanced on February 6 and,7, 1996 by Mitchell
Drilling.Environmental Corporation of Rancho Cordova,.California under the supervision of a SECOR
geologist(Figure 3). Boreholes were advanced to total.depths ranging from 38.5 to 46.5 feet bgs using a
CME 75 drilling rig equipped with 8-and 10-inch diameter hollow-stem augers. During advancement of
the boreholes, relatively undisturbed soil samples were collected for lithologic description and possible
chemical analyses at intervals ranging from 2-to 5-feet using a California-modified split-spoon sampler lined
with three 6-inch long brass tubes.
The SECOR geologist described the soil encountered according to the Unified Soil Classification System
(USCS)and maintained a boring log of these descriptions included as Attachment A. A representative soil
sample from each sample interval was screened in the field for the presence of volatile organic compounds
{ (VOCs) using an organic vapor meter 580B Photoionization Detector (PID). Screening results were
documented on the boring logs.
H:ISFF MILLAPT
50090.011-02
