Attached is a site chronology prepared by SJCEHD. Please address all future
correspondence to the address in the header of this letter, and continue to send copies of
written correspondence to SJCEHD.
On 27 July 1988, one 1,000-gallon leaded gasoline Underground Storage Tank (UST) was
removed from the Site. The maximum soil confirmation result for the UST removal was: Total
Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), 95 mg/kg. In February 1997, Interstate Brands
Corporation (parent corporation for Dolly Madison) and their consultant EMCON advanced
three soil borings, and analyzed soil and grab groundwater samples. Two borings were
converted to groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1 and MW-2) and one boring was converted
to a soil vapor extraction well. In 1997, maximum groundwater monitoring concentrations
were: TPHg, 18,000 Ng/L, and benzene, 4,400 pg/L. In April 2004 when quarterly monitoring
ceased, the maximum groundwater concentrations were: tert-butyl alcohol, 10 Ng/L and
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), 24 Ng/L. SJEHD required the submittal by 19 September 2005
of a workplan to delineate the vertical and lateral extent of the 1,2-DCA, and the resumption of
quarterly monitoring.
California Environmental Protection Agency
Ca Recycled Paper
