Mr.-& Mrs. Lague <br /> Page 2 <br /> June 21, 1989 <br /> o Transportation of 55 gallon drums containing <br /> "topsoil pile" material to a Class I disposal <br /> facility using a licensed hazardous waste hauler. <br /> DHS will send a representative to assure that the <br /> removal is conducted according to applicable laws <br /> and regulations. <br /> o Documentation of removal <br /> - A letter indicating date and time of removal, <br /> name of hauler, destination, arrival date and <br /> time, and any difficulties encountered, if <br /> applicable <br /> Copies of signed manifest documenting receipt <br /> at disposal facilities <br /> Photographs documenting removal of drums <br /> Per your request, the Department is now offering you the <br /> opportunity to implement the recommended Remedial Action <br /> Alternative. <br /> DHS is in the process of issuing a Remedial Action Order <br /> describing these activities in greater detail . <br /> Also note that the Department intends to use the State <br /> Contractor, Radian Corporation to collect confirmation samples <br /> of the surface soil located beneath the "topsoil pile" . The <br /> purpose of this confirmation sampling is to assure that soil <br /> concentrations remaining at the site are below those which <br /> would result in greater than a one in a million (1 x 10-6) <br /> excess lifetime cancer risk. As indicated in the DRAP, this <br /> risk 1 x 10-6 excess lifetime cancer risk level is the <br /> regulatory criteria used by the Department to establish clean <br /> up levels. <br /> Dr. Spiszman, the Project Manager, will contact you in the <br /> next week or so to arrange for this confirmation sampling. <br /> Please feel free to contact Dr. Jacalyn Spiszman at <br /> (916) 924-2190 as soon as you have selected a licensed <br />
