MVA-3 was located <br />' at the eastern perimeter of the Site The approximate locations <br /> of the borings and monitoring wells are shown in Figure 2 <br />' 4 . 1 Borings <br /> The borings were drilled using 8-inch diameter hollow stem <br /> augers Soil samples were collected at depths ranging from <br />' approximately 15 feet to 45 feet bgs by driving a 2-inch diameter <br /> California Sampler containing clean brass tubes ahead of the <br /> hollow stem augers The soil samples were also screened using a <br />' portable photoionization detector (PID) <br /> Additionally, two groundwater samples were collected using a <br />' hydxopunch from the two borings Hollow diameter steel casing <br /> containing a perforated PVC screen at the bottom of the casing <br /> were advanced to approximately 2 feet below the first permeable <br /> zone at approximately 15 feet below existing grade The casing <br />' was retracted approximately 48 inches to allow infiltration of <br /> groundwater Groundwater samples were collected by lowering a <br /> Teflon bailer through the hollow casing Samples were <br /> transferred into 1-liter amber glass 3ars and 40-mL VOA vials <br /> The filled brass tubes, VOA vials, and amber bottles were <br /> immediately capped, sealed, labeled, and placed in a chilled <br /> cooler containing crushed ice for transportation to the <br /> laboratory Proper documentation and field chain-of-custody <br /> procedures were followed <br /> tThe borings were backfilled with cement grout upon completion of <br /> the sampling activities All equipment used during this <br />' investigation which might have come into contact with affected <br /> materials were thoroughly decontaminated before and after each <br /> use This was accomplished by washing with Alconox (a <br /> laboratory-grade detergent) and rinsing with deionized, <br />' distilled, or fresh water <br /> 4 .2 Monitoring Wells <br />' 4 .2 . 1 Well Installation <br /> Drilling of the monitoring wells were performed using 8-inch <br />' diameter hollow-stem augers ,Soil samples were collected near- <br /> continuously from the borings for each well for lithologic <br /> description Field and lithologic logs are included in Appendix <br /> A <br /> 3 <br />
