' portion of the Site contained detectable concentrations of total <br /> petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline (TPHg) , TPH as diesel <br />' (TPHd) , and TPH as motor oil (TPHo) Additionally, the water <br /> reportedly collected within the 550-gallon UST located at the <br /> eastern portion of the Site contained elevated concentrations of <br />' TPHg, TPHd, and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes <br /> (BTEX) <br /> Bamer Construction Company removed the abovementioned 550-gallon <br />' UST in September 1999 Soil samples collected beneath the UST <br /> and from the soil overlying the UST contained non-detectable <br /> concentrations of TPHg, BTEX, and methyl tertiary-butyl ether <br />' (MTBE) , and low to non-detectable concentrations of lead The <br /> soil sample collected beneath the pipeline located directly <br /> adjacent to and east of the UST contained non-detectable <br /> concentrations of BTEX, MTBE, and detectable concentrations of <br /> TPHg and lead <br /> A Work Plan dated November 8 , 1999 was submitted to SJC-EHD for <br />' review and approval The Work Plan was prepared by ICES and <br /> described the proposed boring and monitoring well installation <br /> procedures, and soil and groundwater sampling activities <br /> 4. 0 SITE INVESTIGATION <br />' Well and boring permits were obtained from SJC-EHD prior to site <br /> investigation activities Copy of permits are included in <br /> Appendix C SJC--EHD was also notified 48 hours prior to <br /> t initiating boring and monitoring well installation activities <br /> Site preparation included screening the borings and well <br /> locations using a magnetometer to assess the potential presence <br />' of underground utilities Underground Services Alert was <br /> contacted to assist in utility locating activities prior to <br /> initiation of investigation activities <br />' Cruz Brothers of Milpitas , California screened the borings and <br /> well locations for underground utilities on December 2 , 1999 <br /> The borings and wells were drilled and installed by West Hazmat <br />' Drilling Corporation of Newark, California on December 6 and 7 , <br /> 1999 <br /> A total of five groundwater samples were collected Two <br />' groundwater samples were collected from two boring locations at <br /> the Site One boring (SB-1) was located at the western portion <br /> of the Site adjacent to the conveyor and shredder machine The <br />' second boring (SB-2 ) was located at the southwest corner of the <br /> . two adjoining warehouses Additionally, three groundwater <br /> samples were collected from three monitoring wells Well MW-1 <br />' 2 <br />
