17 January 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 99-0641
Page 3 of 6
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
Based on the results of the UST removal and the associated soil sampling, an unauthorized release
of petroleum hydrocarbon compounds appears to have occurred at the site. AGE proposes to collect
soil and discrete ground water samples to evaluate the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum
hydrocarbon impact, and to assess ground water for fuel impact. The assessment will require the
following activities:
• Permitting and pre-field work activities;
• Soil sample collection and analysis;
• Ground water sample collection and analysis and;
• Report preparation.
3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the PHS-EHD, and a site-specific Health
and Safety Plan will be prepared. Prior to mobilization, each soil probe and/or soil boring location
will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert (USA).
The PHS-EHD and USA will be contacted a minimum of 48 hours prior to conducting investigation
activities.
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Initially, AGE proposes to advance two soil probe borings as requested by the City of Stockton in
the bid for quotes for professional services dated 16 April 1999. The soil borings will be advanced
in the vicinity of the former USTs and the dispenser islands to evaluate the lateral and vertical extent
of the petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soil.Proposed probe boring locations are illustrated in Figure
2.
One soil probe boring is proposed to be advanced northeast of the former USTs, and the second soil
probe boring is proposed to be advanced to the southeast of the former UST area.
Soil probe borings are proposed to be advanced to depths of approximately 20 feet bsg. However,
total depths of probe borings will be based on field observations and field screening using an organic
vapor monitor(OVM). Soil samples will be collected from each probe boring at five-foot intervals
from S feet bsg to the total depth of the boring. Field procedures for advancement of probe borings
and collection of soil samples are presented in Sections 4.1 and 4.2, respectively.
Advanced GeoEnvironmentaf,Inc.
