Jefferson School is located across the intersection southeast of the site.
2.2 Underground Storage Tank Removal
It is our understanding that two 1,500-gallon UST's, piping and dispensers were removed
Ij
from the property in October 1993. Samples collected from beneath the tank did not detect
any hydrocarbon contamination. However, samples collected near the dispenser area at a
depth of six (6) feet indicated that an unauthorized release of hydrocarbons had occurred.
Total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as gasoline) were detected at concentrations of 48,000
parts per million (ppm); volatile aromatics (BTE&X) were detected at concentrations as
great ar, 6,100 ppm11(,xylenes).
2.3 Soil Boring Installation
On August 12, 1.994, borings B-1 and B-2 were drilled in the area of the former fuel
dispenser island and advanced to depths of 45 feet and 35 feet, respectively.
High concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in soil samples collected to
a depth of 25 feet; concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons decreased with depth. Low
concentrations of TPH were detected in samples from 30 feet and 35 feet and no petroleum
hydrocarbons weredetected in the sample collected at a depth of 45 feet (B-1).
