The purpose of the
proposed work is to assess the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil located near two
former gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs) . The proposed boring locations and depth of investigation are
based on the analytical results of soil samples obtained during removal of the USTs in November of 2012, and our
understanding of the depth to groundwater at the site.
2.0 _ SITE DESCRIPTION — —
-- West Linne Road borders the site on the north; South Tracy Boulevard to the west; and residential properties
immediately to the south and east (Figure 1). Properties in the surrounding area are primarily residential to the
north, and commercial and industrial to the east, west and south. The Country Market convenience store
currently occupies the site, The site surface is mostly paved with asphalt with unpaved or landscaped areas in the
east and south portions of the site. One domestic well is located in the northeast portion of the property.
3.0 BACKGROUND
On June 28, 2013, Antea Group conducted a review of site records available with the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD). According the documents reviewed, two former USTs were installed
- circa 1959 in the northwest corner of the site. These former USTs were 350- and 500-gallon single-walled steel
- . tanks used for storage of leaded and unleaded gasoline. Both USTs were abandoned in place in the late 1980s by
filling each tank with concrete slurry. Jim Thorpe Oil, Inc. (Jim Thorpe) excavated and removed both slurried USTs
lfrom the site on November 16, 2012.
J
During the tank removal activities, Jim Thorpe stated that the tank bottoms were 7-feet below ground surface
(bgs) . Jim Thorpe collected a soil sample at approximately two feet below each tank at 9-feet bgs (samples named
Tank-A 9' and Tank-B 9'); Tank-A refers to the 500-gallon tank and Tank-B refers to the 350-gallon tank. Samples
J were also collected at approximately 3-feet bgs along associated former product piping (Tank-A 3' and Tank-B 3') .
_ All soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (GRO), benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (collectively referred to as BTEX), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tert-butyl ether
( ETBE), tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME), methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), tert-butanol (TBA), and ethanol .
I
