The workplan was prepared in response to Provision G.2.e of
Waste Discharge Requirements (WDRs) Order No. R5-2002-0225. After reviewing the workplan,I have
the following comments:
• The 20-foot screen length is too long;please limit the screen length to no more than 15-feet. It should
be noted that monitoring the air/groundwater surface is not required at this site because floating non-
aqueous phase substances are not anticipated to be present. Therefore, the screened interval can be
placed slightly below the water table to minimize the possibility of the well going dry during late
summer months.
• If a slip cap is used on the bottom of the well casing, it must be secured using stainless steel screws.
• Please include an evaluation of the adequacy of the groundwater monitoring network. In July 2002,
Wells MW-1 and MW-4 went dry and could not be sampled. If the wells cannot be used to monitor
groundwater quality propose replacement of the wells.
Please respond to the comments in this conditional approval no later than 30 May 2003. If you have any
questions on this conditional approval, please telephone me at(916) 255-3116.
TIMOT R.
