Geologuall`ecwcs/tic Page 8 <br /> Additional Site Characterization Report <br /> Project No 662 2 <br /> February 20,2004 <br /> ' soil samples were obtained for geotechnical analyses These samples will be discussed in <br /> section 3 3 below <br /> ' Well EW-1 was constructed with 4 0-inch diameter schedule 40 PVC The following table <br /> illustrates the construction details <br />� 1 <br /> Well No. Diam./TD Screen Slot Sand Pack Transition Grout Seal <br /> (in/ft) Interval (ft) (in) (ft) Seal (ft) (ft) <br /> ' EW-1 4"150' 37 — 50' 0 010 36— 50' 32 - 36' 32'-surface <br /> The screened interval of EW-1 is designed to intercept a sandy layer identified at 37 — 50 <br /> feet bgs in borehole MW-104 Before installing the bentonite seal the well was bailed using <br /> a 4" diameter steel bailer to achieve maximum filter pack density and remove fines A <br /> ' weighted bentonite pellet transition seal was then installed above the sand filter pack The <br /> surface seal was achieved by pumping a neat cement grout (augmented with < 4% <br /> bentonite) through a 1" diameter PVC tremmie pipe lowered into the augers The grout was <br /> pumped as the augers were withdrawn to ensure that an integral grout seal was achieved <br /> The well was secured with a locking watertight cap encased in a flush mounted traffic rated <br /> well box <br /> Well construction is detailed on the boring log included in Appendix C <br /> ' 3.2 Soil Sampling Procedure <br /> ' Four soil samples were collected in 6 0-inch brass liners using a 2 0-inch modified <br /> California split spoon sampler (12 or 18") All soil samples were sealed with Teflon sheets, <br /> capped, labeled and placed in a cooler at 4° Celsius for transport to the laboratory following <br /> Chain of Custody protocol <br /> 3.3 Geotechnical Analyses <br /> Four soil samples were submitted to Cooper Testing Laboratory of Mountain View, <br /> California for testing of <br /> • Hydraulic conductivity <br /> ' • Porosity and dry bulk density <br /> • Permeability <br /> • Organic carbon content <br /> ' A summaryof the soil testing data is included in the following table and the laboratory data <br /> r` g g i'}' <br /> reports are attached in Appendix E <br />
