Box 1839 PERMIT/SERVICES
Santa Monica, CA 90406
WORK PLAN FOR USA STATION #65 AT 2500 WEST LODI AVE. , LODI
We have reviewed the Work Plan dated 4 November 1988 from your
consultant, Applied GeoSystems, regarding the additional work
needed at the site. Following are our comments:
1. Plate P-3 shows that the proposed well locations are east of
the site across a Woodridge Irrigation District Canal. It
is likely the irrigation canal leaks and may create a
hydraulic ridge which would affect the contamination plume.
If after taking water levels it is determined that this is
the case, additional wells west of the canal will be
necessary. The other alternative is to relocate at least
one of the proposed wells west of the canal.
2. The text is confusing on whether a Teflon bailer or a
submersible pump will be used -to collect water samples after
purging. It is also not indicated what type of submersible
pump would be used. Provided that an acceptable pump is
proposed, either method is acceptable if the sample is
obtained from the top four feet of the water column in the
well.
3. In addition to obtaining soil samples every 5 feet, one
sample is to be taken immediately above the saturated zone.
Resolving the above concerns should not unduly delay the proposed
investigative work. USA Petroleum should continue obtaining any
necessary local permits and begin work as soon as possible. As
requested in previous correspondence, a Problem Assessment Report
is to be submitted by 30 December 1988 to this office and Ms.
Laurie Cotulla of the San Joaquin Local Health District.
If you have any questions, please call me at (916) 361--5721.
BRIAN NEWMAN
WRC Engineer
BCN:bcn
cc: 40s.'
