ST&WCALIFORNIA GEORGE OEUKhKLA N.Gowma
LIFORNIA REGIONAL WATE QUALITY CONTROL BOARD- RIM
-
CENTRAL VALLEY REGION
3443 ROUTIER ROAD
SACRAMENTO,CA 85827-3098
19 October 1988
Mr. Charles Nichols
USA Petroleum corporation OCT 2 1 1988
P.O. Box 1839
Santa Monica, CA90406
Ei'v v
REPO REQUIREMENTS FOR USA STATIONS #65 AT
We have reviewed the 13 October 1988 letter from your consultant,
Applied GeoSystems; regarding •the need for additional work at the
site and the necessity for submitting previously requested
reports. Staff does not concur with the following
statements/conclusions made in the letter:
1. The levels of contamination do not warrant further
delineation drilling or the preparation of a Problem
Assessment Report.
Previously submitted reports indicate• high levels of ground
water contamination beneath the tank pit(up to 1700, 2500,
and 2000 ppb BT&X respectively) . Also, peripheral wells
were not placed in the indicated down gradient direction, so
the actual extent of contamination has not been
satisfactorily determined.
2. Applied GeoSystems Report No. 87050-2 "Delineation of
Hydrocarbon Contamination and Hydrogealogic
Characterization, " dated .13 October 1987, satisfies the
requirements "of a Preliminary geport.
The Applied GeoSystems report lacks the following:
a. - Detailed site map showing tank location and type,
piping, buildings, nearby septic systems, leachfields,
underground lines (including water, sanitary sewer and
storm sewer) , streets, and adjacent properties (North
toward the top of the page, and approximate scale
1 inch - 20 feet) .
b. Estimates of quantity and composition of the liquid
leaked (including basis of estimate) .
C. History of site use (including tank use) .
