Mr. Harlin Knoll, SJCEHD April 7,2006
Work Plan for Confirmation Soil Borings Project No. 2007-0065-01
USA Station No. 65,Lodi, California
Page 6
Task 213: CPT Borings and Groundwater Sampling
Stratus will oversee a California licensed drilling contractor advance borings CPT 1 and
CPT-2 to approximately 90 feet bgs (or equipment refusal). The CPT consists of
advancing a cone-tipped cylindrical probe (1.7 inches in diameter) into the ground while
simultaneously measuring the resulting resistance to penetration. A computer generated
CPT log is plotted in the field, providing a continuous log of site lithology. Upon
completion of sampling, the CPT holes will be pressure grouted from the bottom of the
borehole up to surface grade.
Following the CPT work, depth-discrete grab groundwater samples will be collected from a
separate boring, located approximately 2 feet from the initial CPT boring. The number of
grab groundwater samples collected from each of the direct push borings will be based on
the strata encountered during CPT, and also on strata encountered in nearby borings
previously drilled. HydropunchTM sampling equipment will be used to collect the
groundwater samples at desired depth intervals, based on the continuous log generated
from the CPT. The HydropuncWm sampler will be pushed to the bottom of the sampling
interval using 2-inch diameter steel rods. The steel rods are subsequently retracted
approximately four feet, exposing the screen to allow for the collection of depth discrete
groundwater samples. The location and number of groundwater samples collected will be
determined at the time of the investigation. Upon completion of sampling, the direct-push
boring will be pressure grouted from the bottom of the borehole up to surface grade.
Additional information regarding the CPT and groundwater sampling and handling
procedures are described in Appendix A.
Task 2C: Waste Management
Drill cuttings and wastewater generated during the field activities will be contained in
U.S. Department of Transportation-approved 55-gallon steel drums. The drums will be
appropriately labeled and stored at the site pending proper disposal. A licensed
contractor will transport the soil and wastewater to an appropriate facility for disposal.
Task 3: Laboratory Analysis
Soil and groundwater samples will be forwarded to a state-certified analytical laboratory
for chemical analysis. The samples will be analyzed for TPHG using U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (USEPA) Method 8015B/DHS LUFT, and for benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX compounds), MTBE, tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), tertiary
amyl methyl ether (TAME), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE),
and 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) using USEPA Method 8260B.
KAUSA Gasoline100651Workplanslusa65-boring-cpt-workplan.doc 5MATU5
