1
Mr. Tom Busenbark, S.NAPCD November 30, 2004
Source Test Report Project No. 2007-0065-01
USA 65, Lodi, California
Page 2
During the system source test, the following parameters were monitored and recorded on
field data sheets (Appendix A):
• Influent flow rate (field flow),
• System influent flow rate (after dilution),
• Applied vacuum on the vapor extraction wells,
• Influent and effluent air temperature, and
• Photo-ionization detector (PID) measurements for organic vapors from the
extraction wells.
Influent and effluent air samples were collected on October 20, 2004, in the presence of
SJVAPCD personnel. Samples were collected in one-liter tedlar bags from sample ports
(influent, system-influent, and effluent; Figure 3) using a tedlar bag vacuum chamber and
an air-sampling pump. Samples were forwarded to Alpha Analytical, Inc. (Alpha), a
state certified laboratory (FLAP #2019), and analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons
as gasoline (TPHG) using United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA)
method SW8015B/DHS LUFT Manual, and for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total
xylenes (BTEX compounds), and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) using USEPA
Method SW8260B (Appendix B).
Analytical results of soil vapor samples collected on October 20, 2004, were used to
calculate mass extraction rates, mass emission rates, and destruction efficiencies. Table 1
presents a summary of the system operating parameters, analytical results, and
destruction efficiencies. Detailed calculations for estimated mass emission rates and
destruction efficiencies are presented in Appendix C.
Based on analytical results of air samples collected on October 20, 2004, TPHG,
benzene, and MTBE were extracted at the rate of approximately 64.42 pounds per day
(lbs/day), 0.053 lbs/day, and less than 0.038 lbs/day, respectively. The mass emission
rates for TPHG, benzene, and MTBE were calculated to be less than 0.009 lbs/day, less
than 0.0005 lbs/day, and less than 0.0005 lbs/day, respectively: The destruction
efficiency of the SVE system for TPHG was estimated to be approximately 100 percent
for samples collected on October 20, 2004.
The results of the source test demonstrate compliance with the conditions listed in the
ATC. Considering compliance of the SVE system with ATC requirements, Stratus
requests that a permit to operate be issued. During the continuous operation of the SVE
system, Stratus will continue to collect influent and effluent air samples monthly, and
KAUSA Gasoline100651Reports\USA 65_Source Test Rept_Nov 04.doc
