The brass tubes were sealed with plastic end caps and Teflon tape; labeled in accordance with
..• EPA protocol; recorded on a chain-of-custody(COC)form; stored in a pre-cooled ice chest at 41
degrees Centigrade; and shipped to Sierra Laboratories (Sierra), a California certified analytical
laboratory for analysis. Strict COC protocol was maintained throughout the sample handling
process.
All samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons in the gasoline range(TPH G; EPA
Method 8015M), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, toluene, and xylenes(BTEX;EPA Method
8020) and methyl-tert-butyl-ether(MTBE;EPA Method 8020). All product line samples, spoils
piles samples and two samples from the excavation(EXC-1 and EXC-9) were analyzed for lead
(EPA Method 6010). Lead analysis results are consistent with background Ievels. Additional soil
analysis for fuel additives(EPA Method 8260)was performed on sample EXC-3 to confirm the
presence of MTBE. The County also requested analysis for TBA, ETBE, TAME, and DIPE, fuel
additives used in addition to MTBE. Soil sample results are summarized in Tables 1, 2 and 3.
Laboratory results and COC documentation are included in Attachment A.
Approximately 320 cubic yards(cy) of soil was removed during product line retrofit and UST
overburden and 230 cy of soil was removed during over-excavation activities, which was disposed
of by USA at Forward Landfill. Forward Landfill collected spoils pile samples(SP-A through D
and SP-E through H) at their facility in Manteca.
Monitoring well S-1 was damaged and repaired during field activities. With the concurrence of
the County, GHH grouted S-1 following restoration of the UST field.
`r
Soil sample data indicate that there is impacted soil remaining on-site. The pump island samples
have the highest TPH G concentrations in the location of samples P-4, P-5 and P-8. In the UST
excavation impacted soil was detected in all samples collected. The highest TPH G
concentrations were detected in samples 1-EXC through 4-EXC, 12-EXC and 14-EXC.
The tank retrofit program conducted and the removal of impacted soil may qualify this site as low
risk and a candidate for site closure. If you have any questions or need additional information,
please call the undersigned at (916) 723-7645.
Thank you,
LL 4V
Vern A Bennett
Project Manager
Zc0hardV4Zipp
Principal Hydrogeologist
F:\5059.14\KVAnaJ\Exc.rpt
;*■' Attachment(s)
PC: Mr. Harlan Knoll, San Joaquin County Public Health Services
