30 March 2001
' AGE-NC Protect No 98-0497
2 2 GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION
Prior to the collection of ground water samples, the depth to ground water was re-measured in each
well to ensure that a rmnimum of 80% of the initial water volume had recharged Water samples
were then collected from each well using a clean, disposable plastic bailer The water was transferred
' into one 1-liter amber bottle and three chilled 40-m1 volatile organic analysis(VOA) vials containing
0 5 ml hydrochloric acid (18%) as a sample preservative After collection, the samples were labeled
and placed m a chilled container for transportation under chain-of-custody to McCarnpbell
Analytical Laboratories (MAI), a DHS-certified analytical laboratory Each sample was analyzed for
the following
' Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TAH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified,
' Volatile aromatic hydrocarbons - benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and total xylene (BTEX)
and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8020,
• Oxygenated fuel additives -MTBE,tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),
ethyl tertiary butyl ether(ETBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether(TAME),methanol, and ethanol
in accordance with EPA Method 8260 Modified, and
' Ethylene dibromide and 1,2-dichloroethane in accordance with EPA Method 8260
' 3.0. FINDINGS
' Ground water elevation and flow direction were inferred from field data, hydrocarbon-impact to
ground water and soil was assessed by laboratory analysis of the ground water samples
' 3 1 GROUND WATER ELEVATION AND GRADIENT
' Ground water elevations were determined by subtracting the measured depths-to-water from the
surveyed casing elevations The ground water elevation on 15 March 2001 was approximately 32 34
feet below msl, with the average depth of water at 57 28 feet below casing tops The average ground
' water elevation in the three wells had.increased 1 9 feet since the last ground water monitoring event
Ground water is within the screened interval of each monitoring well
' The ground water gradient for the March 2001 monitoring event was inferred to be 0 001 feet/feet
with a flow direction toward the east-northeast
i
Advanced GeoEnvirorunentaL Inc
1
