During this work,we stockpiled sandy soil from the tank and piping excavations
on the site. Our original intention was to replace as much of the soil in the excavations as possible to j
minimize.costs. However, new pea gravel backfill was required for the new tanks and piping, which
precluded the use of most of the excavated soil as backfill: The volume of soil that could have been replaced
in the excavations after treatment was only about 20 cubic yards to cover the tops of the excavations.
It did not appear practical to investigate on site treatment alternatives for the small volume of soil that could
have been replaced in the excavations since this would have required us to prepare a plan for the treatment,
implement the plan, report the results of the work and then backfill the soil. The cost-to treat the soil on site
would have been significantly more than the cost to dispose of the 20 cubic yards of soil at a Class III landfill
along with the remaining stockpiled soil.
We apologize for any misunderstanding that may have occurred. Please call me at(510)420-9172 if you
._ .___
have any questions or comments.
Sincerely,
Cambria Envir0 mental Technology,Inc.
N..Scott M cLeod, R.G.
Principal Geologist
cc:.R.
