Page 9
Geological reckxiesInc.
Additional Pilot Test Work Plan
Project No.770.2
October 30,2008
These three high'vacuum-tests will be used to determine"the contaminant mass.-remova in
fsvN--4-liquid and-vapor phases`and investigate the effectiveness of dual phase extraction method for
groundwater.and soil remediation-at the site.
4.5 Effectiveness Evaluation
As stated above in Section 4.4 the amount of pressure necessary for demonstrating vacuum
influence in soil vapor extraction technology is generally regarded as at least 0.1 inches of
water vacuum. The radius of influence of the dual phase extraction will be estimated by
comparing the changes in pressures and"depth to Water at the monitoring wells that are `yam
located at varying distances from the extraction wells.
Excelchem Environmental Labs of Roseville. California performs air analysis (EPA Methods
8015M and TQ-1) for r TPH-diesel, TPH-gasoline and BTEX constituents in-vapor. GTI will
take at least 9 vapor samples duringpilot-test-extraction and will work with Excelchem (or
_
other labs)to quantify mass removal rates during the pilot.test for all 3 scenarios explained in
Section 4.4.
5.0 SCHEDULE AND REPORTING
Geological Technics Inc. anticipates beginning fieldwork no later than 30 days after work
plan approval and USTCFP cost pre-approval. The information gathered during this phase of
work will be presented in.a report, which will include a summary of the pilot tests with
extraction pressure/vacuum influence, water level and OVM reading data. Dr. Ray
Kablanow, a registered professional geologist, will supervise the project. Copies of the
report will be forwarded to .both the appropriate County and State regulatory agencies (SJC
PHS/EHD and CRWQCB-CVR). Groundwater monitoring, involving all of the site's wells,
will occur on a quarterly basis. A report will be issued for each monitoring event and
submitted to the County and State agencies.
1
f
