properly licenced auger ng as directed by Mr Hunter Margaret Lagorio, Lead Sr
REHS, and Bruce Askanas, REHS, from the San Joaquin County EHD arrived at 0915
hours After discussing field procedures, Ms Lagono directed that the well be placed in
the southwest corner of the site where the UST's had been located Refer to PLATE III
& EXHIBIT F for it's location
The rig was equipped with 5' lengths of clean 6" OD augers, Robert Vickery was the
driller, assisted by two helpers Tools included a California Modified Split-spoon sample
barrel designed to hold three, 2"x6" metal tubes The ng was equipped with two barrels
so that while one was in use the other one was being decontaminated by cleaning with an
Alconox solution and double rinsed
Drilling began at 0930 hours, fill material was penetrated to approximately 12' where
native soil was encountered The first core was taken from 15'-16'6" It was retrieved and
placed on a clean surface The barrel was carefully opened and the metal sleeves laid out
for examination and preserving After describing the material, Mr Hunter promptly
preserved two sleeves by covering the ends with teflon tape & plastic caps and thoroughly
sealing both ends with duct tape The preserved tubes were labeled and placed on ice A
portion of the remaining core was placed in a ziplok bag, labeled, and set aside for 10-15
. minutes The probe of a field calibrated PID meter was then inserted into the bag and the
reading recorded The sample chamber was then thoroughly cleaned and set aside until
needed Cores were taken at 5 foot intervals from 15' bgl to 81' bgl, they were handled in
the same manner as described above Refer to PLATE VI for complete details of blow
counts, core recovery, lithology, and PID readings
After taking the last core, 2", flush-screw point PVC casing was made up and run in the
augers The bottom 20' consisted of 6 rows of 02" machine cut slots sealed with a
threaded end cap The remainder of the pipe was blank SRI Supreme gravel was poured
into the annular space between the casing and augers, the pipe was agitated during this
stage to prevent voids in the gravel pack The height of the gravel pack was continually
monitored with a weighted tape Auger flights were withdrawn as the work progressed
When the gravel had filled to a depth of 58', two feet above the top of the screen, it was
sealed by pouring 1 112 sacks of bentonite into the annular space and wetting it with
water The remaining flights were withdrawn and the annulus was filled with a
cement/bentomte mixture using a flexible hose and grout pump A precast box and traffic
cover were placed at the surface, and the top of the casing secured with an expandable
cap PLATE VII is a schematic showing well completion details
The preserved samples were transferred under chain of custody to Don Light of Dei-Tech
for later transfer to the courser for Sherwood Labs All samples were to be analyzed for
BTEX, TPHg, and TPHd Bulk density, effective porosity, & organic carbon were be run
4
