" Gect e ca(Technics Inc. Page 2
Additional Site Characterization Work Plan
Marei's Property
March 21,2000
2.1 Soil Boring Installation
Soil boring/monitoring well permits will be secured as necessary and the local regulatory
agency will be notified 48 hours prior to commencing work. The subsurface will be cleared
of underground utilities by notifying Underground Service Alert.
The soil borings will be drilled using an 8-inch outside diameter, continuous flight, hollow
stem auger owned and operated by V&W Drilling (C574 720904).
V
Soil samples will be collected for geological and analytical evaluation at 5-foot intervals. A
boring log providing sediment description using the USCS and field observations will be
. maintained by a professional geologist working under the supervision of a registered
geologist. Soil samples will be collected in 6.0-inch brass liners using a 2.0 inch modified
California split spoon sampler. All soil samples will be sealed with Teflon, capped with
Teflon end caps, labeled and placed in a cooler at 4° Celsius for transport to the laboratory.
Since only selected soil samples will be submitted for laboratory analysis, a screening
process will be used to gather additional information through field observation including:
- • sediment type, especially grain size and clay content
0 moisture content
visible evidence of contamination, i.e., color change due to reduction of iron or
discoloration from hydrocarbons and other pollutants
• readings above background on a organic vapor meter (OVM)
The OVM is a portable photo ionization detector that uses a 10.0 eV lamp to detect
`w compounds with ionization potential below 10.0 eV (hydrocarbon range).
2.2 Monitoring Well Construction
La
Well borings will be drilled using a 8.00 inch outside diameter continuous flight hollow stem
auger owned and operated by V&W Drilling (C57# 658786). Soil cuttings will be stockpiled
on site and underlain and covered with plastic.
The monitoring wells will be constructed using 2.0 inch diameter PVC casing with flush
threads. The screened interval for the water table wells will extend from five feet above to
- ten feet below the water table. Should installation of the deep well become necessary, it shall
be discretely screened with a 2.5 to 5 foot long screen at a depth of approximately 95 feet.
Final construction will be determined in the field by the onsite geologist and the
representative from San Joaquin County. Groundwater is expected to be around 60 feet deep.
If a significant clay unit is encountered during the drilling of a well, the well may be seated
no greater than 3 ft into that fine grained unit. A 43 sand filter pack will surround and extend
two feet above the 0.020" screened interval. A granular bentonite transition seal will be
installed and hydrated. A surface seal will be achieved by pumping a neat cement grout
(augmented with < 4% bentonite) via a tremie tube. Each of the wells will be secured with
. locking watertight cap encased in flush mounted traffic rated well box.
A licensed land surveyor will survey the top of casing measuring point for each well into a
known benchmark elevation. A properly sealed site map will be prepared at this time.
