Shell Service Station
7190 Lower Sacramento Road,Stockton,California
Similarly, soil sample PI-9 was collected 4 feet below surface from the product line trench
connected to the pump island and approximately 10 feet southwest of the location of soil
sample T-3. Petroleum hydrocarbons were not found above detection limits in soil sample
PL-9. Product line trenches are backfilled with sand and engineered to drain away from
dispenser islands toward the underground storage tanks. Furthermore, it is well
documented that product line trenches act as conduits for the migration of petroleum
hydrocarbons. Native soils directly beneath the dispenser island are of predominantly
clay matrix, thereby enhancing the likelihood of migration of petroleum hydrocarbons
through the product line trench. if petroleum hydrocarbons were released in the area of
soil sample T-3, it is highly probable that low level petroleum hydrocarbons would have
been detected in the product line trench 10 feet from the location of sample T-3.
A more conservative application of the data would place an inferred zero line of petroleum
hydrocarbons a maximum of 11 feet from soil sample T-3 in both the horizontal and
vertical direction. The data also demonstrates that the extent of petroleum hydrocarbons
in soil in the area of the northern dispenser has been investigated and defined.
Therefore, on behalf of Shell Oil Company, Aegis respectfully requests a re-evaluation of
the requirement for further investigation at this time.
Thank you for your continued interest in this project. If you have any questions, please
call me at (916) 782-2110.
Sincerely,
AEGIS ENVIRONMENTAL INC.
Brian H.
