The Shell Service Station is located at 7910 Lower Sacramento Road in Stockton, California, SW 1/4,
NE 1/4, Section 16, T.2N., R.6E. (Figure I). The site is located in a commercial area of Stockton
and encompasses an area of approximately 0.37 acre. The property is bordered on the south by
Hammer Lane, on the west by Lower Sacramento Road, and on the north and northeast by a
shopping center.
2.3 Site History
Records from the San Joaquin County Assessor's office indicate that the Parcel No. is 077-330-49
and that the land is owned by Y. C. Soda. Shell Oil Company owns the station building,
underground storage tanks, and piping. Mr. John Kindrick is the current station operator and has
leased the facility from Shell for the last nine years. Due to the age of the steel underground storage
tanks, Shell decided to replace the tanks with fiberglass tanks.
A precision tank test was performed during the summer of 1987 by Hunter Environmental on the
three former underground storage tanks. The results, as discussed with the owner, did not indicate
a problem with the tightness of the tanks.
On December 20, 1988, three steel underground storage tanks were excavated and removed from the
site. A tank closure report detailing tank removal activities was submitted to San Joaquin County
in April, 1989. Three new 10,000--gallon double-walIed fiberglass underground storage tanks were
installed on December 22, 1988. Existing and former tank sizes, type of product stored, age, and
tank construction data are presented in Table 1.
60
2.4 Utilities
The site lies within the city of Stockton and is on city water and sewer. Sewer, water, and storm
`r lines are located under Lower Sacramento Road. Before drilling is initiated, Underground Service
Alert will be contacted to locate all buried utilities.
2.5 Well Inventory
61 An Inventory of existing domestic and municipal water supply wells near the site was initiated on
February 22, 1989, by a Delta representative at the California Department of Water Resources
(DWR). According to DWR records, 25 wells have been identified within a half-mile radius of the
site.
