PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES 10 A4 CC <br /> G <br /> SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY <br /> JOG[ KHANNA M D,M P H ' <br /> Health Otficer <br /> P O Box 2009 • (1601 Fast Hazelton Avcnuc) • Stockton, Caldomia 95201 <br /> (209) 468-3400 <br /> ANN ARNEY <br /> 650 MANAGEMENT CORPORATION �J J <br /> 2121 SAN JACINTO TOWER STE 1060 FEB 10 1993 <br /> !r DALLAS TX 75201 <br /> RE Diamond Lumber SITE CODE: 2483 <br /> 151 Main <br /> Manteca, CA <br /> On February 5, 1993, San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division <br /> (PHS/EHD) staff visited the above referenced site to observe monitoring well sampling procedures <br /> PHS/EHD staff observed that a submersible pump was being used to purge monttonng wells SRK MW 1, <br /> ' SRK MW 2, and SRK MW 3 and that the pump and tubing were not being decontaminated between uses <br /> in the three monitoring wells In addition water samples were being collected using the submersible pump <br /> and the discharge rate was too high for water sample collection. <br /> While it is desirable to be able to use the same equipment for purging and sampling it is important that <br /> the discharge rate of the pump be very low (approximately 100 ml/minute) to minimize sample aeration <br /> and degassing when collecting water samples <br /> In addition if the equipment is not cleaned between use in each well a separate device should be used for <br /> sampling and/or field blanks should be taken to demonstrate that the sample results are valid <br /> It should be noted at this time that water levels have risen to approximately 215 feet below ground surface <br /> (bgs) The screened portion of monitoring wells SRK MW 1, SRK MW 2, and SRK MW 3, begins at 23 <br /> feet to 25 feet bgs Since we are dealing with contaminants that float on top of water the samples from <br /> these wells may not be representative of the groundwater quality <br /> If you have questions contact Margaret Lagono, Senior RENS, at (209) 468-3449 <br /> ' Jogi Khanna, M D�, M P H <br /> Health Office / <br /> Laurie A.
