t <br /> JA STEFFEN ROBERTSON AND KIRSTEN <br /> October 29, 1991 <br /> rMs L A Cotulli, REHS <br /> Program Manager <br /> i Public Health Services, San Joaquin County <br /> 1601 E Hazelton Avenue <br /> Stockton, California 95201-2009 <br /> Re Diamond Lumber, 151 S Main, Manteca, Caltforrua, Site 2483 Sampling of Fxtsttng Wells <br /> Dear Ms Cotulla <br /> On October 15 199 t <br /> 1, Steffen Robertson and Kirsten (U S ) Inc, (SRK) completed monitor well <br /> sampling of the three existing wells, MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 at the above referenced site <br /> Prior to collecting groundwater samples, a sequence of bailing and monitoring was completed in <br /> order to ensure that representative samples were collected The sequence is described on a well- <br /> by-well basis as follows <br /> MW-3 <br /> Opened the cap on the %tell at 1250 T7ic temperature of the water in the well was measured by a <br /> thermometer which was allowed to equilibrate for S to 10 minutes The thermometer was then retrieved and <br /> the temperature recorded The initial water temperature measured was 74'F We checked it a second time <br /> and recorded 71'F as the water temperature We recorded well depth from the top of the well casing as 29 <br /> feet 10 inches The water depth measured at this well was 25 feet i inch from the top of the well casing <br /> A gas odor was apparent after initially opening the well cap We proceeded to bail by had using a 1050 ml <br /> disposable PVC baiter One discrete bailer was used for each well The water was clear at first, but became <br /> Cloudy with grayish suspended particulates after the third bailing Stopped baiting this well around 1450 when <br /> ony getting about 2 inches in the bailer At 1520 the temperature of the water in the well was measured to <br /> be 71'F and I inch of water was retrieved in the bailer We elected to allow the well to recharge and then <br /> sample <br /> Will MW 3 was sampled at 1615 Before acquiring a sample,we steam-cleaned each of the bailers and then <br /> rinsed them with distilled water The water samples taken at this well were clear and without suspended <br /> material The samples were put immediately into a cooler with blue ice to maintain a temperature of 4•C <br /> during shipment to the laboratory <br /> MW-2 <br /> MW-2 was opened at 1415 Water temperature,well depth,and water depth were measured using the same <br /> techniques as described for MW-3 The initial water temperature measured was 74'F, but the second <br /> measurement was 71T The well depth was measured to be 30 feet and the water depth was measured to <br /> be 25 feet 8 inches <br /> The water from this welt had more of a sewage smell than a gas smell The water remained clear throughout <br /> the bailing This well was quick to recharge We bailed this well for about 45 minutes accomplishing <br /> approximately 8 bailings every S minutes The water samples were clear and without suspended solids The <br /> samples were immediately placed in a cooter with blue ice <br /> MW-I <br /> MW4 was opened at 1445 Water tCmpc,a,u,c, well depth, and water depth were measured using similar <br /> techniques described for well MW 3 The water temperature measured at this well was 71'T' rhe welt was <br /> measured to be 29 feet 4 inches and the water depth to be 2-5 feet 1 inch, all measured from top of casing <br /> Steffen Robertson and Kirsten (U S ) Inc <br /> 15311 NE 90th Street Redmond Washington 98052 U S A <br /> Tel (206) 881 2233 Facsimile (206) 881-1581 <br /> .,..• .�« .k Other off cps in U S A Canada United Kingdom and Africa <br />
