Ranchhod
4225 E.Hammer Lane
Stockton,CA 95212
(209) 570-2258 Celt Phone
From: Edward W.Finucane,PE,QEP,CSP,CIH
-L-F,concerning the analysis of the contents of the septic tank that
Subject: Report#030203
.serves both of the following two living units: 18043 So. Manthey Road
18019 So.Manthey Road Lathrop, CA 95330
Lathrop, CA 95330
12 February 2003) and the analysis (on 18 February 2003) of
On-site sampling of the septic tank(on
the contents of the same tank that serves the two units listed above produced results that show alarm-
ing levels of seven common organic chemicals(see the tabulation below and theAppendix x t phOiss Re-
port for the complete analytical results, namely,GeoAnalytical Laboratories,Inc.Repo
03).The following non-zero concentration level results of this sampling are shown below:
Detection Limit Actual Results
No. EPA Method Analyte
V54EPA 8260B toluene 1.0 pglliter 193 mg/liter
o-xylene 1.0 gg/liter 127 mg/liter
" isopropylbenzene 1.0 Nglliter 15.8 . Jter
p-isopropyltoluene 1.0µg/liter 16.4 mg/liter
n-proylbenzene 1.0 iig/liter 20.0 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene 1.0}ug/litermg/liter
1,3,5-trimethylbenzene 1.0 nAjter 32.9 mO.iter
In my judgment,ALL of these organic chemicals are likely components ofa common commercial
product known generically as"white gasoline"—.i.e., Coleman Lantern Fuel;etc.
Results obtained under EPA Methods 8260B were developed using a combination gas chromatogra-
phy and quadruple mass spectrometry. Please note that the units of concentration listed above differ
from those in the Lab Report. The tabulation above shows results as "mg/iitce%a unit that is,in ef-
fect, milligrams per kilogram, or,basically,.parts per n by wetebt gr res. The Lab Report pro-
vided results in h=Mer b Ilion bY ly ht gl mass. My best guess is that some volume.of"white
gasoline" was dumped, either directly into the septic tank,or transferred to it by having dumped this
material into any of the plumbing fixtures in either of the two structures serviced by this septic tank.
Should you have any questions on any of the:data,or any of the conclusions of this Supplemental
Report, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you very much for permitting me to be of service
to you in this matter. 8 C S'.A
Sincerel ,
Na 13749
fxa 12.31-03 ! $DWAR6_W_.FhWCINE
Edward W.
