Sen Joaquin Local Health District Re: Soil Reexcavation & Resample Work Plan
June 27,_1989 _ Page-2-of 2 260 S. Main Street, Manteca, CA
5. Reexcavation and resample steps: We are proposing to reexcavate the west end
of the original excavation with a backhoe to a depth of 15' . The hole will be
8' wide x 8' long ,= 64 sq. ft. The original sample was taken at a depth of 10' .
We will collect four (4) side wall samples at this depth and one (1) bottom
•q sample at 15' . All excavated soil will be placed on 6 mil plastic and covered
with same. The amount of excavated soil is estimated to be 35.5 cubic yards,
which will require 1 sample. This sample will 'be taken at the same time as the
other samples. The hole will be barricaded. The samples will be tested as shown
on the attached copy of Minimum Verification Lab Analyses (highlighted areas) .
The results will determine the next step.
Should the samples from the hole be clean, along with the excavated soil , the
soil will be returned.
Should the hole be clean and the soil not clean, hopefully the sample result
levels are low enough to allow aeration of the excavated soil on site under
permits, guidelines, and direction ,of the San Joaquin County Air Pollution Dept.
If the level of contaminates show too high for aeration, the soil will be trans-
ported to a proper hazardous waste facility for disposal , namely Kettleman City,
or possibly a Class 2 site, such as Forward, Inc. If the soil is removed from
the site, it shall be transported under proper licensure. Any manifests produced f
during transfer shall have a copy provided. to SJLHD within 30 days..
6. Timing: Sampling could be scheduled within one week following your review of
this work plan. Advance inspection notice. of at least 48 hours will be given
to SJLHD for resampling inspection., The sample analysis should be ready for
your review within three weeks after they have been taken.
