All UST's and associated piping were removed on
September 27, 1995 and transported under hazardous waste manifest to Richmond,
California where each were properly destroyed by Erickson,Incorporated.
(7) Corrective action taken to date includes the excavation and disposal of hydrocarbon-
impacted soil from the bottom of the north end of the former UST pit and from beneath soil
samples T2-N-16.0 and T3-N-15.0. These samples were collected by Touchstone
Developments on September 27, 1995.The excavation of soil in these areas occurred on
October 2, 1995.The total extent of the excavation was approximately a 20 ft.x 20 ft. area
that extended down to approximately 17 feet below grade. No confirmatory soil samples were
collected from the bottom of this excavation. Approximately forty cubic yards of soil were
generated during this excavation and were disposed of at BFI Landfill in Livermore,CA.
On October 4, 1995 additional excavation of hydrocarbon-impacted soil was performed at
and below the location of Touchstone Development's dispenser sample D-5.The final
excavation was 9.0 ft. x 9.0 ft. x 7.0 ft. deep. Soil samples DX-N-7.0,DX-W-7.0,DX-S-7.0,
DX-E-7.0,and DX-B-8.0 were collected by Touchstone to confirm the effectiveness of this
contamination removal. Approximately twenty seven cubic yards of soil were generated by
this work and were disposed of at BFI Landfill.
A final report documenting all UST removal activities, excavations, soil stockpile
characterization, and disposal will be submitted to San Joaquin County Public Health
Services on,or before,November 10, 1995.
Future site investigation will include soil borings to define the vertical and lateral extent of
hydrocarbons in soil that have been documented onsite to date. The soil boring investigation
will also attempt to define the completeness of excavation that was performed on October 2,
1995 beneath the former UST pit.The investigation will also include the drilling and
installation of groundwater monitoring wells to determine the extent of hydrocarbon
impact to groundwater beneath the site.
(8) The method of cleanup implemented to date has been limited to the excavation of
hydrocarbon impacted soil that was associated with the former UST pit and the former
dispenser area.
Further cleanup activities will be determined upon review of future site investigation results.
Once the need for further cleanup has been determined,a proposal describing the
recommended procedure will be submitted to San Joaquin County Public Health Services.
The workplan describing site investigation activities will be submitted to San Joaquin County
Public Health Services on,or before,November 10, 1995. A report describing the findings of
this investigation will be submitted within forty five days upon completion of all associated
field work. Upon review of this report,a workplan for further investigation or a plan for
corrective action will be submitted within ninety days.
(9) A total of approximately three hundred and fifteen cubic yards of soil were stockpiled at the
subject site. These soils were generated during the removal of all UST's and piping and
during the subsequent excavations beneath the former UST pit and dispenser. All stockpiled
soil was sampled by Touchstone Developments according to those protocol established by BFI
Landfill to meet their acceptance criteria. Once approval was received, all soils stockpiled
onsite were transported to BFI Landfill on October 16, 1995. Copies of all manifests available
to date are attached.
