Main
Manteca, CA
Project No. 562.2
January-5,_1998 -
1.0 INTRODUCTION
In 1992 one 10,000 gallon unleaded gasoline underground storage tank was removed from
the site. Some residual contamination is suspected in the soil and possibly the groundwater.
On May 7, 1997 Fiore Development was directed by San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department to submit a work plan to determine if residual soil or groundwater
contamination exists beneath the former tank.
Geological Technics Inc. was contracted by Mr. Fiore on December 1,l 997 to perform the
soil and groundwater investigation described in this work plan.
2.0 PROPOSED INVESTIGATION
To further investigate the possibility of soil and groundwater impacted with gasoline range
petroleum hydrocarbons, Geological Technics Inc. proposes to install one. GeoProbe
borehole, collect soil and groundwater samples and test these samples for petroleum
hydrocarbons.
-.., -2.1----GeoProbefllydropunch.Survey..
Soil Core Sampling
One GeoProbe borehole will be drilled through the former tank excavation. Soil samples will
be collected at five foot intervals down to the capillary fringe. The expected depth to
groundwater is 20 to 25 feet below ground surface (bgs). Upon reaching the capillary fringe
a hydropunch type sampling tool will be advanced into the groundwater and a groundwater
sample will be collected.
The borehole will be drilled with a GeoProbe rig owned and operated by V&W Drilling of
Rio Vista, CA (C57#. 720904). The GeoProbe advances a coring tool with a pneumatic
hammer to a selected depth. Upon reaching that depth the coring tool is opened and
advanced further to fill the core barrel. The soil sample enters an acetate cylinder contained
i
