(AGE), on your behalf for the above-referenced site. The EHD had
directed the submittal of work plans to install a soil vapor extraction (SVE) system and perform
an ozone pilot study by letters dated 06 September 2012 and 02 April 2013.
In Remedial Action Work Plan, AGE proposes to:
• Install one additional SVE well (VW-4), screened between five and twenty feet below
surface grade (bsg), at a location illustrated on Figure 2 of the work plan; AGE noted
that the total depth of the borehole and the screen interval may vary based on soil
lithology and field observations that include screening for volatile organic compounds
using an organic vapor monitor with a photo-ionization detector (PID)l-
•
PID);• Advance the borehole for VW-4 using ten-inch-diameter hollow-stem augers while
collecting soil samples for logging and chemical analysis at five-foot intervals beginning
at a depth of five feet bsg;
• Analyze select soil samples from borehole VW-4 for total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline (TPH-g); benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX); methyl
tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), and tertiary butyl alcohol
(TBA);
• Install a vacuum/carbon-based SVE remediation system consisting of a 150 standard
cubic feet per minute (scfm) Mako Industries Vapor Extraction Package and operate the
system using existing wells MW-1, VW-1 through VW-3 and proposed well VW-4;
• Monitor operating parameters of the SVE system daily during approximately the first
week of operation that includes collecting organic vapor samples;
• Monitor operating parameters of the SVE system weekly following the initial "start up"
period;
• Monthly collect vapor samples in Tedlar bags from the influent and effluent sampling
ports for analysis; (Although the work plan does not list the analyses, the EHD directs
that the vapor samples be analyzed for TPH-g, BTEX and MTBE.)
