The
CUF concurred with the EHD that active remediation should commence to reduce contaminant
mass in the source area to achieve water quality objectives in a timely manner.
Based on the reported results of a soil vapor extraction (SVE) pilot test, the EHD directed by
letter dated 16 July 2012 preparation of a work plan to install an SVE system and one additional
SVE well to initiate site remediation. The EHD recommended postponing the pilot test of ozone
injection and further lateral characterization of the plume, pending evaluation of the SVE system
performance and its effect on impacted groundwater. The EHD also reduced the monitoring
requirements for three new monitoring wells.
Questions or comments should be directed to Vicki McCartney at (209) 468-9852 or to Nuel
Henderson at (209) 468-3436.
Sincerely,
Vicki McCartney, REHS Nuel Henderson, PG
Senior Registered Environmental Engineering Geologist
Health Specialist
2011 Five-Year Review Comment Letter CUF No 18428.doc
