(AGE) on your behalf for the above-referenced site. In the work
plan, AGE proposes to install a groundwater batch removal system to potentially mitigate
and contain the migration of the methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) plume off site. The
fieldwork includes the installation of one four-inch diameter groundwater extraction well
(EW-1) screened between approximately twenty and thirty-five feet below surface grade at
the location illustrated on Figure 2 of the work plan.
The EHD approves the work plan, as submitted, which includes the extraction of five
10,000-gallon batches of MTBE-impacted groundwater from monitoring wells MW-1,
MW-2, MW-3, MW-6, and extraction well EW-1. A twenty-four-hour period will separate
each batch removal. AGE proposes to collect grab groundwater samples from the extracted
groundwater discharge during the first thirty minutes of each batch removal and at the
conclusion of each batch removal, as well as two weeks following the conclusion of the
batch removal to determine the short-term effects. Groundwater samples will be analyzed
for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) quantified as gasoline (TPH-g); TPH quantified as
diesel (TPH-d); benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and total xylenes (BTEX); MTBE, di-
isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether
(TAME), tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA), 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB), and 1,2-dichloroethane
(1,2-DCA). AGE proposes to submit monthly reports presenting findings and, if applicable,
recommendations based on the results.
Please submit a boring permit application and permit/inspection fee of $404 to the EHD
and complete the fieldwork by November 21, 2008.
