'I hT s sampling
was performed ac we filled the hole. The soil originally from the top of the
excavation was analyzed on 21 September 1990 and was put into the bottom o:
the hole first,as we already knew it was clean. Backfljl was tested by a
certified lab for compaction and meets or exceeds the standard for engineered
backfill.
Z6 RWIE Smpft g
Backfill sampling was accomplished under the direction ofG reg Lyons of San
Joaquin County Environmental Health Department. At Mr. Lyon's direction,
We Sam led the soils in "lifts"from the bottom, up to the te►p: As a "lift" was
completed, we entered the excavation and n'atai led 9 samgIes from the floor.
Those 9 samples were then composited by+he lw<oratory to obtain one sample
for analysis. Diagrams of soil sample locations are in tine figures with a list of
H%as measured from
grade to the top of a lift.-
2.7 09mr Sampling
At the direction of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department,
we obtained soil samples from the bottom of the excavation. One sample was
taken from the.11oor in the center of the excavation, two samples in each wall
were taken 10 feet from each corner and one font above the floor. "Fresh" soil
s was reached b `di n
Y g into the fleor and side walls approximately one foot.
Samples were obtained by driving a brass tube into the wall and.floor.
We also obtained a "grab"water sample by digging into the aquifer with a
shovel and letting the hole fill with water, again this was done at the direction
of the Health Depiu:ment. All analytical data is included in this report and all
samples were taken using approved sampling..methods.-Samples-were all
--- -------- --anialyzed by a labcertifiedto p
erform the analysis.
The water sample obtained from the renter of the excavation was not taken
using EPA protocol. A"dip" sample is always subject to contamination from
gloves, hands, and contamination from the outside of the container. In
` addition, no care was taken to clean the shovel that dug into the groundwater
