Beacon Station No.474 June 5, 1998
Stockton,California Work Plan
interval will be from 80 feet to 85 feet bsg. A typical well construction
diagram is included with this Work Plan(Figure 3).
During advancement of the boring, soil samples will be collected and
subjectively analyzed using an organic vapor meter (OVM) at 5-foot depth
intervals, at obvious changes in soil type, and at areas of obvious petroleum
hydrocarbon impact. Soil samples collected from each boring will be
submitted to a State-certified laboratory. Selected soil samples from those
submitted to the laboratory will be analyzed for the presence of total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), the gasoline constituents benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX), and methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) by
modified Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Methods 8015/8 In
addition, selected soil samples may be analyzed for parameters used for risk-
based corrective action assessment (RBCA), such as total organic carbon
content. The two bottom soil samples will be analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, and
the oxygenated fuel additive compounds methanol, ethanol, tertiary butanol,
MTBE, di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE), and
tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME) by EPA Method 8260. Chain-of-custody
(COC)protocol will be followed for all soil samples submitted for analysis.
Task 3 Perform a VET and a combined ASIVET to evaluate the efficiency and
practicality of air-sparging and vapor-extraction as a groundwater and soil
remediation alternative, and to enable design of a groundwater and soil
remediation system. The proposed equipment includes a regenerative type
blower that will be used to induce a vacuum at vapor extraction well VW-1.
Maximum flow rate for this blower will not exceed 100 cubic feet per minute at
any time during the VET and ASNET. The control device for the VET
effluent will be two 200-pound activated carbon vessels plumbed in series. The
duration of the VET will be approximately four hours in length, which may be
increased or decreased depending on the field results.
