i <br /> ' APPENDIX C <br /> SECTION I BORING METHODS <br /> ' Bonng Methods <br /> The soil borings were advanced using a mobile truck mounted drill ng with 10 inch hollow stem <br /> ' continuous flight auger The auger was steam cleaned prior to drilling each boring in order to <br /> reduce the potential for cross-contamination The lithology, individual well design, and other <br /> ' pertinent data were recorded on the field boring logs (Appendix B) in accordance with the <br /> Unified Soil Classification System (US CS) (Appendix B) for visual description and identification <br /> of sods <br /> ' Soil cuttings from the boring were placed in DOT approved 55-gallon drums Once they are <br /> evaluated and verified with analytical results as to whether or not the soils are contaminated, <br /> ' they will be disposed of using proper methods and protocol <br /> ' SECTION 2 SAMPLING METHODS <br /> Soil Sample Collection <br /> Soil samples were collected through the auger in 2 112-inch brass sleeves driven in a split-spoon <br /> sampler by a 140 pound hammer with a 30 inch drop All sampling equipment was!washed in <br /> Alconox solution and rinsed in distilled water prior to each usage <br /> Soil samples were driven at 5 feet intervals unless otherwise noted The blow counts, recovery <br /> and lithology were recorded on the field log (Appendix B) One brass sleeve with soil from <br /> each interval was capped, sealed, labeled in accordance with EPA protocols, recorded on chain <br /> of custody forms (Appendix D), placed in a cooler at 4 degrees centigrade or less, and <br /> transported to a California certified laboratory with the chain of custody for the specified <br /> analyses <br /> ' Field Screening of Soil Samples <br /> ' The material from the top tube in the split-spoon sampler was placed in a brass container to <br /> approximately 50 percent capacity, shaken, and stored for a period of 5 minutes A standard <br /> headspace reading was collected using a Century 128 OVA at this time and noted on the boring <br /> ' log <br /> B 1125JI RPT <br />
