SECTION 3 QUALITY ASSURANCE PLAN <br /> The following sections describe field and analytical quality-assurance procedures that were <br /> followed during the investigation <br /> Sample Collection and Handling Protocol <br /> Proper sample collection and handling were essential to assure quality of data obtained from the <br /> ' soil samples Each sample therefore was collected in a brass tube, preserved correctly for the <br /> intended analysis and was stored for no longer than the permissible holding time prior to <br /> analysis The water samples were collected in either a glass far with a teflon lined cap or a <br /> plastic liter bottle for the lead analysis <br /> Sample Identification and Chain of Custody Protocol <br /> Sample identification and chain of custody procedures are designed to assure sample quality and <br /> to document sample possession from the time it was collected to the time of its ultimate disposal <br /> The container for each sample submitted for analysis was labeled with the identifying number <br /> (boring, depth and date) <br /> A properly completed chain of custody form was submitted to the analytical laboratory along <br /> with the sample The laboratory's assigned number was properly entered on the form A <br /> quality control officer at the lab venfied integrity of the samples submitted, proper sample <br /> volume, correctness of containers used, and properly executed Chain of Custody Form <br /> Pertinent information was entered into a log book kept by the laboratory <br /> i <br /> The analytical laboratory assigns a separate sample number unique to that sample for internal <br /> sample coordination and identification A description of the sample including the sample number <br /> and other pertinent information regarding its collection and/or geologic significance was written <br /> in geologic boring log that was prepared by the site geologist These field documents will be <br /> kept in a permanent project file <br /> Analytical Quality Assurance <br /> In addition to routine calibration of analytical instruments with standards and blanks, the analyst <br /> is required to run duplicates and spikes to assure an added measure of reliability and precision <br /> B 112571 itPT <br />
