A Material Safety Data Sheet(MSDS) for the HHW product or hazardous <br /> substance will be located and provided to the treatment facility. MSDS are <br /> located adjacent to the shipping/receiving area of the warehouse,as well as <br /> adjacent to the copy machine in the office. If the MSDS is not available on site, <br /> PSC staff will attempt to obtain them electronically through the intemet or from <br /> the manufacturer of the product or substance. <br /> 3. Explosions or Fire <br /> i. In the event of a fire or explosion,all persons will evacuate the building. <br /> Evacuation escape routes and procedures are outlined below. <br /> ii. The Emergency Response Procedures will go into effect as outlined in Section B <br /> of this document. <br /> 4. Earthquake <br /> i. In the event of a large magnitude earthquake,all persons will immediately <br /> evacuate the building. Evacuation escape routes and procedures are outlined <br /> below. The Project Manager/Emergency Coordinator(EC), after consulting with <br /> County representatives,will determine if and when re-entry into the building is <br /> safe. <br /> B. EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURE <br /> The following procedure shall be implemented for rapid, safe response and control of a <br /> fire or chemical spill. The person/employee who discovers an emergency situation will, <br /> to the best of their ability,make a quick initial hazard assessment regarding chemicals <br /> involved and any injuries and immediately notify the Emergency Coordinator(EC). <br /> 1. The Emeraencv Coordinator will: <br /> 1. Sound the alarm by verbal means or with an air horn with three consecutive long <br /> blasts for evacuation. Upon their sounding, the area should be immediately <br /> vacated by employees and general public. <br /> 2. Contact the appropriate on site supervisory personnel and will instruct another <br /> employee to ensure everyone is evacuating the affected area or building. <br /> 3. Provide instructions to appropriate personnel to implement the following <br /> measures: <br /> a. Shill <br /> i. Where safe to do so,control the leaking source. <br /> ii. Apply absorbent material to spill. <br /> iii. Create an absorbent berm to prevent migration to reach storm <br /> drains and/or drainage channels. <br /> b. Fire <br /> i. If safe to do so,select appropriate extinguisher for type of fire. <br /> Class ABC -ordinary fires involving inert materials,fires <br /> involving grease/flammable liquids,or electrical fires <br /> Class A-ordinary fires involving wood,paper, cloth,rubber <br /> -2 - <br />
