Kennedy/Jenks Consultants <br /> ' 4 INFORMATION FROM SITE RECONNAISSANCE <br /> Kennedy/Jenks conducted a visual assessment of the site and surrounding properties on <br /> 4 March 1996 to observe any items of potential environmental concern <br /> ' <br /> 41 Hazardous Substances in Connection with Identified Uses <br /> ' Visual assessment of the site did not indicate any usage or generation of hazardous <br /> substances that would indicate a potential environmental concern Assessment of <br /> surrounding properties was limited to exteriors In the vicinity of the subject property, a dry <br /> cleaner, printing company, and newspaper are generators of hazardous wastes <br /> 42 Hazardous Substance Containers and Unidentified Substance Containers <br /> Hazardous substance containers identified onsite were limited to household sizes of <br /> cleaning products These containers do not appear to be a significant potential <br /> environmental concern <br /> 1 43 Underground Storage Tanks <br /> Site reconnaissance identified two features which may be fill ports in the Market Street <br /> sidewalk outside the Cunningham Hotel These ports may possibly indicate the presence <br /> of an underground fuel storage tank The hotel currently has a gas-fired boiler which <br /> provides steam heat for the rooms It is likely that the boiler formerly used fuel oil Review <br /> of records at the Stockton Fire Department did not disclose any fifes on this property <br /> 44 Indications of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) <br /> One pole-mounted electrical transformer owned and maintained by PG&E was identified on <br /> the subject property The transformer was located west of the trailer located in the <br /> southeastern portion of the subject property No labeling was visible to indicate PCB <br /> content, and no staining of the asphalt pavement under the transformer was observed <br /> Fluorescent lights were observed in the halls on the second and third floors of the <br /> Cunningham Hotel at 620-622 Market Street and on the first floor of the building at <br /> 626-632 Market Street Fluorescent light ballasts may contain PCBs PCB-containing light <br /> ' ballasts must be disposed of in accordance with federal and state requirements prior to <br /> planned demolition or renovation activities <br /> ' <br /> 45 Indications of Solid Waste Disposal <br /> Solid waste generated onsite is contained in trash bins and is collected for weekly disposal <br /> No solid waste fill areas were observed on adjacent properties during our area <br /> ' reconnaissance <br /> 46 Physical Setting Analysis <br /> The hydrogeologic conditions in the vicinity of the site are conducive to subsurface <br /> migration of chemicals through the vadose zone (unsaturated) and groundwater <br /> (saturated) Fine-grained sands and gravels are highly porous and groundwater and/or <br /> ' i yobIB6%Wl 4 Wtexcdoc 13 <br />
