Phase 11 Environmental Site Assessment
Manteca Multimodal Station Project,Southeast of Moffat Boulevard and Main Street Manteca, California
LABORATORY ANALYSIS
The soil and groundwater samples were transported to Associated Laboratories-of Orange,
California under chain-of-custody documentation. The soil and groundwater samples were
analyzed as follows:
Former Standard Oil Company Supply Station and Industrial Adjacent Land Uses-The soil
samples from 5 feet below grade and groundwater samples from B 1 through B5 were analyzed
for full range total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH)by EPA Method 8015M and volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) by EPA Method 8260B. The deeper soil samples were placed on hold at the
laboratory pending the analytical results of the 5-foot samples. Based on the results of the 5-foot
deep samples (described in the Results section below), further analyses of the deeper soil
samples collected from B1 through B5 (10, 15, 20 and 25 feet deep samples)were not
conducted.
Historic Railroad Spurs-The 16 soil samples collected from 0.5 feet below grade from RB 1
through RB 16 were analyzed for TPH by EPA Method 8015M and total metals by EPA Method
6010B. Eight soil samples (RB2, RB4, RB6, RB8,RB 10,RB 12, RB 14, and RB 16)from 0.5 feet
below grade were analyzed for VOCs by EPA Method 8260B. Four composite soil samples (1:4
ratio) from 0.5 feet below grade were analyzed for chlorinated herbicides by EPA method
8151A. The 2-feet deep soil samples were placed on hold at the laboratory pending the
analytical results of the 0.5-foot samples. Based on the results of the 0.5-foot deep samples
(described in the Results section below),the 2-feet deep soil samples collected from B4 and B 14
were also analyzed for lead.
Stained Pavement-The soil sample collected at 1-foot below grade from RB 17 was analyzed for
VOCs by EPA Method 8260B, SVOCs by EPA Method 8270C,TPH by EPA Method 8015M, total
metals by EPA Method 6010B, organochlorine pesticides by EPA Method 8081A,chlorinated
herbicides by EPA Method 8151A, and PCBs by EPA Method 8082. The 5-foot deep soil sample
was placed on hold at the laboratory pending the analytical results of the 1-foot sample. Based on
the results of the 1-foot deep soil sample(described in the Results section below), further
analyses of the 5-foot deep soil sample collected from B 17 were not conducted.
RESULTS
During the current assessment, the soil consisted of silty sand and sand from surface to between
14 and 18 feet below grade and clay and sandy clay from between 14 and 18 feet below grade to
25 feet below grade. Groundwater was encountered in the five borings at between 18 and 22 feet
below grade. Boring logs for the five-borings advanced to 25 feet below grade(B1 through B5)
are included in Appendix 2. Summaries of the analytical results are included in Tables 1 through
3. Copies of the laboratory analytical reports are included in Appendix 3.
FORMER STANDARD OIL COMPANY SUPPLY STATION AND ADJACENT
INDUSTRIAL LAND USES
Soil and Groundwater Sampling
Five borings(B 1 through B5)were advanced to 25 feet below grade along the southern property
line. Soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals in each boring. The soil samples collected
at 5-feet below grade were analyzed for TPH and VOCs.
