26 September 2008
AGE-NC Project No. 07-1587
3.2. HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL
A total of 55 soil samples from the five soil borings and were analyzed for the constituents listed in
Section 2.2. The following target analytes were detected:
• TPH-g was detected in soil samples analyzed from all the borings with maximum
concentrations as follows:2,800 milligrams per kilogram(mg/kg;BI-40),44 mg/kg(B2-40),
48 mg/kg (B3-50), 2,200 mg/kg(B4-35), and 7 mg/kg (B5-35),respectively.
• TPH-d was detected in the soil samples analyzed from borings B 1 and B4,with maximum
concentrations as follows: 2,000 mg/kg (B1-15 and B1-40) and 820 mg/kg (B4-35),
respectively.
• Three or more BTEX compounds were detected soil samples collected from borings Bl and
B4. Maximum concentrations detected in soil samples from boring BI were 2.2 mg/kg
benzene (B1-40), 2.1 mg/kg toluene (B1-30), 4.5 mg/kg ethylbenzene (B1-15) and 8.47
mg/kg total xylenes(B1-15).Maximum BTEX concentrations detected in soil samples from
boring B4 were 1.4 mg/kg toluene(B4-35), 1.5 mg/kg ethylbenzene(B4-40)and 5.96 mg/kg
total xylenes (B440).
• DIPE was detected in four soil samples analyzed from boring B1, with concentrations
ranging between 0.050 mg/kg (B1-10) and 0.28 mg/kg (B1-35).
• TAME was detected in soil samples analyzed from borings B1 and B4, with maximum
concentrations of 2.9 mg/kg(BI-35) and 0.012 mg/kg (B4-45), respectively.
• 1,2 -DCA was detected in soil samples analyzed from borings Bl and B4, with maximum
concentrations of 0.060 mg/kg(B1-40) and 0.075 mg/kg(B4-35),respectively.
No other target analytes were detected at or above laboratory detection limits in any of the soil
samples analyzed. Analytical results of soil samples are summarized on Table 1. The lateral
distribution of total petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted soil is depicted in Figure 4. A geologic
cross-section showing the lithology east across the site utilizing borings B 1 and B3 with TPH-g and
TPH-d analytical soil results is shown in Figure 7. Laboratory reports (CTEL Project No. CT214-
0806036,-0806014, -0806063 and -0806035), quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC)reports,
and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix D. Laboratory electronic deliverable format
(EDF) files were QA/QC checked and uploaded to the State Water Board GeoTracker site;
confirmation numbers are 1739292979, 1509960353, 9018341541, and 3539594352.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
