26 September 2008
AGE-NC Project No. 07-1587
3.3. HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED GROUND WATER
A total of 9 grab ground water samples collected from five soil borings and analyzed for the
constituents listed in Section 2.2. The following target analytes were detected:
• TPH-g was detected in grab ground water samples from borings B1 through B4, with
maximum concentrations of 240,000 micrograms per liter (µg/1; BIGWII), 1,600 µg/1
(B2GWII), 48 µg/1 (B3GWII), and 2,200 µg/l (B4GWII),respectively.
• TPH-d was detected in grab ground water samples from borings B 1 and B4,with maximum
concentrations of 130,000 µg/l (BIGWII) and 5,200 µg/1 (B4GWII), respectively.
• Three or more BTEX compounds were detected in grab ground water samples from borings
B 1 and B4.Maximum BTEX concentrations detected in boring B I were 2.200µg/1 benzene,
150 µg/1 toluene,2,300 µg/1 ethylbenzene,and 3,410 µg/1 total xylenes in sample B1GWII.
Maximum BTEX concentrations detected in boring B4 were 7.2 µg/1 toluene(B4GWI), 36
µg/1 ethylbenzene (B4GWII) and 38.4 µg/1 total xylenes (B4GWI1).
• DIPE was detected in the two grab ground water samples collected from boring B1 at
concentrations of 41 µg/l (B1GWI) and 18 µg/1 (BIGWII).
• TAME was detected in the two grab ground water samples collected from boring B1 at
concentrations of 71 µg/1 (BIGWI) and 250 µg/1 (B1GWII).
• 1,2 -DCA was detected in the two grab ground water samples collected from boring BI at
concentrations of 10 µg/1 (B1GWI) and 78 µg/l (BIGWII).
No other target analytes were detected at or above laboratory detection limits in any other of the
samples analyzed.Analytical results of ground water samples are summarized on Table 2.The lateral
distribution of total petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted ground water in GW 1 and GWE are depicted
in Figures 5 and 6,respectively.A geologic cross-section showing the lithology east across the site
utilizing borings B I and B3 with TPH-g and TPH-d analytical grab ground water results is shown
in Figure 8. Laboratory reports (CTEL Project No. CT214-0806036, -0806014, -0806063 and -
0806035), QA/QC reports, and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix D. Laboratory
electronic deliverable format (EDF) files was QA/QC checked and uploaded to the State Water
Board GeoTracker site; confirmation numbers are 1739292979, 1509960353, 9018341541, and
3539594352.
'L
4.0.
