GeoStrategies Inc. <br /> UNOCAL Corporation <br /> December 15, 1993 <br /> Page 4 <br /> contamination or the absence of contamination Soli sample selection for <br /> chemical analysis is based on site-specific geological conditions as they <br /> relate to potential contamination migration pathways and confining layers <br /> Soil samples retained for chemical analysis were collected in clean stainless <br /> steel tube liners Upon removal from the sampling device, the tubes were <br /> covered on both ends with teflon sheeting and sealed with plastic end caps <br /> The soil samples were then labeled, entered on a Chain-of-Custody form, <br /> and then stored in an ice chest with blue ice for transport to Western <br /> Environmental Science & Technology (WEST), a California state-certified <br /> laboratory located in Davis, California <br /> SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS <br /> • The site is underlain by clays to the total depth explored of approximately <br /> 31 5 feet bgs A clayey sand stratum, two to three feet thick, was <br /> encountered in Borings U-C and U-D at approximately 19 feet bgs Lateral <br /> continuity of this stratum could not be evaluated Rootholes and sand-filled <br /> desiccation cracks were observed in all borings up to the total depth <br /> explored Groundwater was not encountered in these borings <br /> Clayey gravel was encountered to a depth of approximately 14 feet bgs in <br /> Boring U-G This material is imported fill placed in the former UST <br /> excavation Brick and the fragments encountered in Borings U—A and U-D <br /> and other man-made debris encountered during UST and product line <br /> removal indicate the uppermost ten to twelve feet of soil is fill material <br /> CHEMICAL ANALYTICAL RESULTS <br /> A total of ten soil samples were submitted for chemical analysis Sample <br /> depths and chemical analytical data are summarized in Table 1 Copies of <br /> the laboratory analytical report and chain-of-custody form are presented in <br /> Appendix C <br /> 782702-3 <br />
