& Associates, Inc.
Environmental scientists and Engineers C
September 20, 1993
1685-030
Mr. Russell Chapin
Chapin Brothers, Inc.
1203 N. Carlton Avenue
Stockton, California 95203
Subject: Quarterly Update Report
1766 Monte Diablo
Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Chapin:
This letter represents the required quarterly status report for the pending site remediation project
located at 1766 Monte Diablo Avenue in Stockton, California. On August 4, 1993, Walsh &
Associates, Inc. (WALSH) assisted with the removal of two 8,000-gal and two 4,000-gal
underground gasoline storage tanks, and collected a total of six soil samples from the base of the
excavation. WALSH returned to the site on August 6, to collect one soil sample from beneath
a 550-gallon underground waste oil tank, and one sample from beneath the waste oil delivery
line. With the exception of the waste oil pipeline sample, which was collected in situ, all of these
samples were collected from the backhoe bucket using a hand-operated percussion core sampler.
Selected samples were analyzed by a state-certified environmental laboratory and a letter report
was submitted to San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division (SCEHD). The results of
the laboratory analyses are listed in Table 1 of this quarterly update report.
Contaminated soil generated by the tank removal was transported to the owners property at 1660
Beyers Road, east of the city of Stockton. The soil was stockpiled in a containment structure
constructed from bales of hay and plastic sheeting. Five composited soil samples were collected
from the stockpiled soil for laboratory analysis (Table 1). Because contaminant concentrations
were all less than 50 parts per million total petroleum hydrocarbons, the San Joaquin Valley
Unified Air Pollution Control District authorized uncontrolled soil aeration for the stockpiled soil.
West Coast Division:
1734 34th Street .
