CHAPIN BROTHERS, INC.
May 25, 1995
Page 4
water, Two passive product skimmers will be installed in monitoring wells MWX and MW2 to
remove free product present in ground water.
Miscellaneous equipment will Consist of flow meters, vacuum, pressure and temperature gauges,
valves, a water-knockout tank, high temperature and water level automatic shut-off switches and
sample ports. The vapor extraction and air sparging equipment will be placed inside an enclosure
contained within a six-foot-high chain link fence with redwood slats.
Complete system design and construction drawings for the vapor extraction and air sparging
systems will be prepared for permitting and construction purposes. We will procure all necessary
equipment and materials for a fully operational air sparging system, We will coordinate and
supervise the installation of the treatment system. System installation activities will take
approximately one week to complete.
Afar the SIVUAPCD authority to construct and building permit are obtained the air sparging
wells and vapor extraction wells will be connected to the air sparging blower and internal
combustion engine, respectively, via underground piping. We will procure all necessary
equipment and materials for fully operational vapor extraction and air sparging treatment systems.
We will coordinate and supervise the installation of the treatment systems. System installation
activities will take approximately one to two weeks to complete.
After the SJVUAPCD permit to operate is obtained, the treatment systems will be started,
Measurements will be taken from the internal combustion engine to determine the influent and
effluent gas flow rates. Influent and effluent air samples will be collected before and after the
emissions control device. The air samples will be submitted to a California-certified laboratory
for analysis of Total Petrolewn Hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline using Modified EPA Method
8015 and Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Total Xylenes (BTEX using Modified EPA
Method 8020. After analytical sampling results of air samples are returned from the laboratory,
an emission verification report will be prepared for submittal to the SJVUAPCD approximately
two weeks after collecting air samples, The emission verification report will contain flow rate
calculations, results of laboratory analysis and the system destruction efficiency.
Start-up procedures include electrical and mechanical checks to verify normal operation of
equipment and a system performance check (Le., verification of design vacuums, pressures, and
flow rates). System start-up will follow established SJVUAPCD procedures. If proper
IRS
:x:rd(a xr WALLACG-KUHL
6ASSOCIATES INC.
