- a
! MUM N FELDER
File No, 20-3725-01
August 5, 1993
" Mr. Larry Philips
Brown and Caldwell, Consultants
723 "S" Street
Sacramento, CA 95814-7092
Subject: ADDENDUM TO LETTER DATED I
UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK EXCAVATION .
KENT OIL FACILITY
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
5
Dear Mr. Philips:
a
At your request, representatives from our firm have periodically been visiting the Kent Oil
Facility and, observing the exposed soils in the excavation. - To date, the excavation has a
extended approximately 45 feet below subgrade, and below the near-surface black silty clay
layer the soils have been relatively consistent. Based on our observations, the soils have
generally consisted of brown silty clay and clayey silt which are very stiff to hard. We have
not observed significant sand layers that would adversely affect slope stability. We now
understand that there is a need to possibly extend the excavation to approximately the
maximum depth of 55 feet. Based on our observations, it is our opinion that the excavations
` can proceed as planned. Currently, the deepest portion of the excavation is away from the
truck lane north of the excavation. If it is necessary to deepen the excavation immediately
below this truck area, or even widen the excavation at the 45 foot level, we recommend that
provisions be made to refill trucks at an alternate location to avoid surcharge loading.
This letter summarizes our recent observations. If you have any questions or need further
information, please contact us. Please note that the "Limitations" section contained in the
previous referenced letter still apply.
Respectfully`submitted,
KLEINFEL R, INC
Ron Heinzen, G.E.
Engineering Manager
RH:md 8193`
KIEli)F S.9htr1Fl n
-4 f t SFrt!(-; Cilockton, CA 95
205 (209) 946-1345
_ .
