Researching regulatory requirements to determine what
is required for air or groundwater discharge from the
remediation systems
9. Developing a conceptual design of the remediation
system, incorporating any applicable regulatory
requirements for treatment of water or air discharges.
Interim actions 5 through 7 are essential to move towards
remediating this site as quickly as possible. They are described
here in greater detail.
A soil-vapor extraction test is needed to properly design a
extracted from the
soil-vapor extraction system. Vapor will be
existing wells in the area using a small blower. The vapors can
be treated during the test, if required, in accordance with
appropriate air-discharge requirements. Data gathered during
this test will include flow nates, induced vacuum levels in
nearby wells, and hydrocarbon-vapor concentrations in the ex-
tracted vapor stream. These data will allow for the proper
sizing of an extraction blower and the design of any required
vapor-abatement system.
Although some quantitative data has already been collected
on the groundwater gradient and aquifer transmissivity, further
testing is necessary to obtain more accurate and detailed infor-
mation on transmissivity, hydraulic conductivity, and to define
the extents of the cone of depression and capture zone. A
groundwater recovery well will be installed, and a step-drawdown
test and 48-hour pump test will be performed.
GHOUNDwATER
• TECHNOLOGY.INC.
