2 0 SCOPE OF WORK
1
The project objectives were to further define the extent of impacted soil and groundwater beneath
' the site and adjacent areas To achieve these objectives, soil and groundwater samples were
collected for laboratory analysis from seven direct-push soil borings In addition, groundwater in the
three existing on-site monitoring wells was monitored, sampled and laboratory-analyzed
'
21 Planning and Permittin
9
Prior to initiating fieldwork, a site-specific health and safety plan addendum was prepared according
to 29 CFR 1910 120 The health and safety plan included safety procedures for work to be
' performed, chemical hazard information, site safety officers, and a medical emergency location
To perform the proposed scope of work, drilling permits (SR #31980 and 31981) were obtained
from EHD Since four of the soil borings were drilled on city property, an encroachment permit
(#4453) was obtained from the City of Manteca Public Works Department Copies of the approved
' permits are included in Appendix A
At least two working days prior to field work, EHD was notified so that any inspections could be
scheduled Underground Service Alert was also notified so that underground utilities could be
located and marked
'
22 Soil and Groundwater-Grab Sampling and Analysis
p 9 Y
' On December 5 and 6, 2002, under the supervision of Ramage Environmental and inspection of
EHD, Fisch Environmental (C-57 License#683865) advanced seven soil borings with a Geoprobe®
' 6600 Direct-Push Technology rig (Geoprobe), to evaluate the distribution and extent of petroleum
hydrocarbons in subsurface soil and groundwater As indicated on Figure 2, one soil boring (G-6)
was drilled next to the former USTs, and six sod borings (G-7 through G-12) were drilled
approximately 100 to 150 feet from the former USTs
' The soil boring (G-6) drilled next to the former USTs was advanced directly to the sandy gravel,
second groundwater-bearing interval at approximately 44 feet bgs, for discrete groundwater
' sampling only The soil boring (G-8) was advanced to approximately 30 feet bgs and the other five
soil borings were advanced to approximately 25 feet bgs for soil and groundwater-grab sampling
9
i
1
1
