4
Bennett Properties
December 28, 1987
Page 4
a an intermediate aquifer with the water level at 20 to 25 feet depth;
and,
a a deep aquifer with the water level at approximately 150 to 200 feet
depth.
Water from the water table zone is used primarily for irrigation, and the
upper groundwater level varies according to seasonal changes and pumping rates
(Bologna, 1987) . The intermediate aquifer is used for some private water sup-
ply; this is the aquifer in which the on-site well is likely constructed. This
aquifer has had some salt water intrusion problems; future actions to remEdiate
this may involve establishment of recharge ponds (Boll, 1987) . The deep aquifer
is used by the City of Manteca for its domestic water supply (Koester, 1987) .
The direction of the groundwater flow in the shallow water table is toward
the French Camp Canal, to the west (Bologna, 1987) . The groundwater gradient,
as reported in the San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation Dis-
trict map of Summer 1984, is to the south to southwest (Boll, 1987) .
SITE HISTORY
Following are descriptions of site usages and facilities, based on the in-
formation provided by our references. They are presented in chronological or-
der, beginning with the earliest years for which we obtained information.
The site consists of lots 5, 6, 7 and 8 of the Grove Addition (see Parcel
Plan, Plate 3) (designated as 20, 21, 22 and 24 on the 1979 Assesor's Map) . It
Was part of San Joaquin County until annexed by the City of Manteca approximate-
ly five years ago (Cantu, 1987) .
The earliest known County Surveyor 's map, dated 1909, shows the present
site as owned by A.E. Muenter (Manteca Bulletin, 1976) .
In 1917, sugar beets were a major crop in the Manteca area. The Spreckels
refinery was located one mile southeast of town. Other agricultural land uses
also flourished in the area (Manteca Bulletin, 1976) .
