1� <br />' 7 0 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br />' On any project where personnel may be exposed to hazardous or toxic chemicals <br />' and/or materials, the Site-specific Health and Safety Plan shall specify Personal Protective <br /> Equipment according to the hazards, or potential hazards, to which personnel may be <br />' exposed The equipment to be used shall be selected from the appropriate Protective Level <br /> (A, B, C, or D) defined below, unless some other form or combination of equipment would <br /> be more appropriate Selection of alternative equipment combinations must be based on the <br />' specific hazards and work to be performed, as they are defined following a site-specific <br />'J evaluation <br /> If, during the progress of the work, any condition is found that poses a greater hazard <br /> than that contemplated when the Protection Level was selected, or a potential hazard of <br />'. unknown characteristics is encountered, the Protection Level shall be immediately upgraded <br /> to a higher level commensurate with the risk to health and safety <br />' All protective equipment and clothing shall meet or exceed the minimum specifications <br />' set forth by applicable national or state standards organizations All personnel required to <br /> use Level A, B, or C personal protective equipment shall be instructed in its use according <br />' to OSHA/NIOSH regulations <br />' 71 Level A Protection <br /> 7 11 Characteristics of Hazard <br /> ■ The hazardous substance has been identified and requires the highest level of <br /> protection for skin, eyes and the respiratory system based on either the measured <br /> (or potential for) high concentration of atmospheric vapors, gases, or particulates, <br /> or <br /> 7-1 REV 4/92-EGI <br /> 1r <br /> ���fi <br />
