1
Mr. Harlan Knoll
March 08, 2004
Page 2
The residual soil concentrations of TEPH-diesel found in two of the sidewall samples were
below reasonable further action levels.
The pit water sample represents shallow non-potable groundwater that entered the excavation
during and following excavation. This water came into contact with excavator droppings during
the reopening of the excavation. The stockpiled soil from the excavation contained degraded
I
diesel(27 mg/Kg in the north composite and 1,200 mg/Kg in the south composite)that was
reported, respectively, by the laboratory,as in"late Diesel range, and does not match our diesel
standard" and as "hydrocarbon reported does not match the pattern of our Diesel standard."
Copies of the laboratory analytical report and chain-of-custody documentation for the stockpile
disposal characterization samples are included in Attachment C.
Considering the current and projected land use of this property and the surrounding area
(Industrial), and based on the reporting of non-detectable benzene and other aromatic
hydrocarbons and the sub-parts per million concentrations of diesel in the pit water sample, no
further action is recommended for this property.
II
Please do not hesitate to email h2ogeol&comcast.net or call the undersigned at 925-373-9211
and/or telefax at 925-373-9222 should you have any questions.
Sincerely,
GARY D.LoWE
No.1550
CERT(=(ED
Gary D.
