' 08 August 2005
• AGE-NC Project No 98-0534
former USTs, product piping and dispensers are shown of Figure 2
The former 20,000-gallon diesel UST (Tank 1) was located east of the two former 10,000-gallon
1 diesel USTs (Tanks 2 and 3), at the south east corner of the two common UST excavations The
former 20,000-gallon gasoline UST (Tank 4) was located east of the three 10,000-gallon gasoline
USTs (Tanks 5, 6 and 7), and the 1,000-gallon waste oil UST (Tank 8) was located at the western
edge of the site The former fuel dispensers were located at the southern end of the site along the site
entrance on Navy Drive
9
' During the UST removals, petroleum odors and visible stains were observed by AGE personnel A
total of forty-two soil samples were collected from beneath the USTs, product lines and dispenser
areas Soil samples were collected from beneath the ends of each UST and soil samples were also
collected from below the center portions of the 20,000-gallon USTs Three soil samples were
collected beneath the fuel dispenser A total of fourteen soil samples were collected from the product
line trench, approximately one soil sample for every twenty linear feet of product line In addition,
eighteen soil samples were collected from the stockpiled soil Following removal of the USTs and
collection of soil samples, the excavations were backfilled to surface grade with clean fill material
' The soil samples were transported under chain-of-custody to McCampbell Analytical Laboratories,
Inc (MAI) a State of California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory in
Pacheco, California, and selected soil samples were analyzed for the following
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel (TPH-d), total petroleum hydrocarbons
quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA method 8015 modified,
Purgeable aromatic hydrocarbons benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX)
in accordance with EPA method 8020 and
' a Fuel oxygenates,including methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE),tertiary-butyl alcohol(TBA), di-
isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE) and tertiary-amyl methyl ether
' (TAME) In accordance with EPA Method 8260 modified
Under direction from the EHD, four `grab' ground water samples were collected from the UST
' excavations for Tanks 1, 4, 5 and 6 The water samples from Tanks 1 and 4 were analyzed for
TPH-d,TPHKd
TEX and the fuel additives DIPE,ETBE,MTBE,TAME,TBA The water samples
from Tanks 5 were analyzed for TPH-g, BTEX compounds and the fuel additives DIPE,
' ETBE, MTBE, TAME, TBAN4oti
1
1
' Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
1
